What is the FreeStyle Navigator System?

For many patients, monitoring glucose levels to manage their diabetes can be a challenge. For some patients, who either have very brittle diabetes and experience sudden dramatic changes in their blood glucose levels or who do not experience the symptoms of highs and lows, testing several times a day using traditional finger pricks tests may not provide sufficient information to be able to prevent potentially harmful levels of blood glucose. ¹

The FreeStyle Navigator continuous glucose monitoring system provides the user with glucose measurements every minute. This level of information, displayed in real-time on a wireless receiver, allows the user to see a more detailed picture of their glucose levels.

Comparing a set of readings collected using both traditional and continuous glucose monitoring, reveals some of the differences observed:

With current methods of monitoring, optimal control (5.0-7.2mmol/L) is achieved for less than 30% of
the day.²

Testing 6 times a day, this patient would see:

An average reading of 7.5 mmol/L
Standard deviation of 3.4 mmol/L
Readings within target 84% of the time
Only 1 hyperglycaemic episode detected

Continuous monitoring shows patients the significant highs and lows they would not normally see between tests with traditional SMBG.
