"All my friends smoke, but I try to avoid
it...when my glucose levels go wrong it
makes me feel so awful, so it's not really
worth it"
Dan, 15
Smoking is bad news - there's no way round it!
For people without diabetes, smoking is
a problem for later (in life) - it causes diseases
that affect people after many years. But if
you have diabetes, it affects you everyday
because it makes your body resistant to
insulin.
You will find it harder to get your glucose under control if you smoke. But if you do smoke, and many people do, you should be prepared to work a bit harder to control your glucose. If you smoke occasionally, like at a party, you should be extra careful afterwards.
