JBDS
The Joint British Diabetes Societies (JBDS) supported by NHS Diabetes have produced up-to-date guidance on management of DKA in adults. One of the recommendations is the use of bedside measurement of blood ketones (3-beta-hydroxybutyrate) and the guidelines are recommended to all hospital Diabetes teams for rapid introduction and for acceptance as the national guideline for managing DKA. SIGN
The Scotland Intercollegiate Guideline Network provides national clinical guidance and is aimed at all healthcare professional involved in the care of people with Diabetes. SIGN recommend that when ketone monitoring is required during sustained hyperglycaemia, blood ketone monitoring with increased healthcare professional support is preferable to urine ketone monitoring.
